If there were ever an animal that truly knew how to keep its cool, it would have to be the penguin.

Dressed permanently in black and white, waddling around with confidence, and completely at home in some of the chilliest places on Earth, penguins somehow manage to make life in the cold look surprisingly stylish.

And while most of us probably wouldn't volunteer for an afternoon standing around on the ice, there might actually be a few things we can learn from these wonderfully quirky birds.

Penguins Really Know How to Chill

Penguins spend a huge part of their lives dealing with conditions that would have most of us reaching for another jumper.

Depending on the species, they can face freezing temperatures, icy winds and very cold water. Yet they're remarkably well adapted to their surroundings, with dense feathers and a layer of fat helping to keep them warm.

Some penguins also huddle together when conditions get particularly cold, sharing warmth and helping the group cope with the weather.

It's a pretty good reminder that when things get a little uncomfortable, sometimes the answer isn't to panic. Stick with your people, adapt to what's around you and keep going.

Or, in slightly more Wooby terms: stay chill.

Cool, Calm and a Little Bit Awkward

On land, penguins aren't exactly the most graceful members of the animal kingdom.

There's the unmistakable waddle. The tiny wings. The occasional belly slide.

But put a penguin in the water and everything changes. Those slightly awkward little birds become fast, agile swimmers, using their flippers to glide through the water with impressive speed and control.

There's something rather likeable about an animal that can look slightly ridiculous one minute and completely effortless the next.

Maybe that's part of their charm.

Penguins don't need to look polished all the time. They simply get on with being penguins — and somehow make it work.

That laid-back confidence is exactly what inspired our Chill & Cool penguin design.

Hand-drawn in Brisbane, our penguin isn't battling an Antarctic snowstorm. He's taking a rather more relaxed approach to life — lounging back with his sunnies on and looking like absolutely nothing is going to ruin his day.

Paired with the words “Chill & Cool,” the design captures something we love about penguins: they're naturally charming, slightly funny and effortlessly cool without appearing to try too hard.

And really, who wouldn't like a little more of that energy?

A Little Reminder Not to Take Life Too Seriously

Life has a habit of becoming unnecessarily busy.

There are emails to answer, things to organise, places to be and those mysterious to-do lists that somehow seem to get longer even when we're actually ticking things off.

Sometimes it's worth taking a cue from a chilled-out penguin in sunglasses.

Slow down. Enjoy the moment. Don't worry too much about looking silly. And maybe stop treating every little thing like an emergency.
